Our faculty was constructed in 1947, to be the third medical school in Egypt. Since that date thousands of graduates who provided a high quality health services to the Egyptian society. Also, such a service was extended to include the Arabic, African, Western and American societies through the international figures and experts of those graduates.

Many University Presidents, Deans of other Faculties and Ministries were Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University graduates.

In the early 70s, the Zagazig Medical School was constructed, and was supervised by the staff of our medical school.

Furthermore, our faculty supplies governmental and private schools of medicine with its staff to fulfill its mission and objectives.

The period of study is 6 years, 3 years basic sciences and 3 years clinical study at the Ain Shams University Hospitals followed by one year as house officer.

Self Study of Faculty

The Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University has taken the decision in being one of the Egyptian Medical Schools to prepare a self study set in accordance to the nine global standards of the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) as the first step for national, regional and international accreditation.

A letter of intent was signed by the Dean of the faculty and sent to the regional center of WHO at Cairo. For this purpose a self study team was nominated by the Dean on March, 2005 headed by Prof. Aly Elyan (Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ain Shams University).

Since that date many meetings were held in collaboration with the staff members representing the different departments of the faculty. Active steps were taken and we are in the stage of the data base and SWOT analysis.

We hope that the final report will be ready within the next weeks. After approval of the Faculty and University Councils we are going to put active plan and in collaboration with WHO-EMRO as represented by the (Accreditation of Egyptian Health Profession Educational Institutions Project) to fulfill the requirements of faculty accreditation.
